Ben Shaffer - Take Your Seat!Posted by: nancym 3 years, 6 months ago
CoSA Senior Benjamin Shaffer has had a theatre seat named for him thanks to the generosity of community members Karen Dwinnell and Mary Jane Carpenter. Through the Seat Naming Program of the CoSA Foundation, CoSA theatre angels and arts patrons are able to support a student, the arts and the CHS Performing Arts Center all in one donation.
Ben joined CoSA as a sophomore. By his senior year, he was playing the Pirate King in "The Pirates of Penzance," and flying to New York City to compete in the ESU Shakespeare contest; he had placed first in the San Diego region contest, held annually at The Old Globe theatre. Ben will be attending Pace University in New York next year, working towards a BFA in Acting.
Karen Dwinnell and Mary Jane Carpenter are stalwart supporters of CoSA's Musical Theatre program. Every few years they "adopt" a young actor who they feel has exceptional potential. They follow these students, attending every CoSA show (musicals, student showcases, Improv, Rep Co., Directing Scene Night), and shows outside of CoSA in which the student acts (youth theatre, staged readings, Old Globe Shakepeare Intensive and others). They have formerly "adopted" CoSA students Jordan Bunshaft (2012), Dakota Ringer (2012) and Mitch Connelly (2014), and they plan to follow their careers right through university and beyond -- all the way to Broadway!
Thank you to our theatre angels, Karen and Mary Jane, and congratulations, Ben!Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
