Angela Ahern places 3rd in Speech CompetitionPosted by: nancym 1 year, 3 months ago
Two Coronado High School seniors represented Coronado Rotary in the District 5340 Finals of the highly competitive Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest.
Angela Ahern, a four-year Musical Theatre & Drama student and Owen Schafer, who is bound for Harvard after graduation, became finalists after finishing first or second in a series of club, sub-regional and regional competitions. They were two of six inspirational and talented students who competed in the contest finals on April 20.
Angela and Owen demonstrated strong oratory skills, poise and passion in a competition that attracted over 150 high school students from across San Diego and Imperial counties. Owen's speech was about his development of a Sailing/STEM curriculum for Coronado Middle Schoolers. Angela spoke on the practice of child marriage, particularly in third world countries. Their speeches were based on the "Four-Way Test" principles followed by Rotary International.
Angela placed Third in the competition, winning $500, and Owen placed Second, winning $750. Congratulations to both graduates!
