The prestigious Ben Vereen Awards, presented by Broadway San Diego and sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union, selected CoSA's "Legally Blonde: The Musical" as Best High School Musical for the Southwest Region. On June 7, 2014, Dr. Barbara Wolf, Musical Theatre and Drama Director, accepted the trophy and a cash prize of $1,000 on behalf of CoSA. Congratulations to Barb Wolf, Shane Simmons, Adrian Gonzalez and all the student cast and crew of LBTM for putting on an absolutely stellar, prize-winning show!
The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA), also know as The Jimmy Awards, named for James Nederlander who is Chairman of the Nederlander Producing Company of America and Broadway/San Diego, is a national celebration of outstanding student achievement in high school musical theatre. It recognizes individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance, and honors teachers and their schools' commitment to performing arts education. The Jimmy Awards inspired a PBS 3-part documentary series called "Broadway or Bust" (in which CoSA student Chase Fischer was featured), which followed students on a journey from their hometown competitions to their debut on Broadway.
The Ben Vereen Awards is the southwest regional competition, which includes San Diego and Tucson high schools, whose winners are sent to compete at the NHSMTA in New York.Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
