CoSA Alum Oscar CarrionPosted by: nancym 2 years, 1 month ago
Oscar Carrion, Instrumental Music class of 2009, graduated from UCLA with a BA in Sociology in 2013. Here's a recent update on his current activities:
"I started giving guitar lessons in Coronado right after graduating from CHS, and have taught some of your current CHS and CoSA students. I am continuing to give lessons in the area in the afternoons, and I spend my mornings and early afternoons at High Tech High working with students with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Education is my passion and I feel extremely fortunate to be in the position that I am in today.
I play with a couple of bands around town on a regular basis: Splavender and Citrus (see links below). The former is a progressive/pop sound with surf and jazz tendencies, while the latter is my own brainchild, a sweet mixture of funk and R&B. I definitely feel that CoSA instilled a love and respect for music that I carry on to this day. Matt Heincecke has been a great influence in the fields of performance, music theory, and taste.
My current goals are to attend the Sociology doctorate program at UCSD and to continue to make music for people to hear. Splavender's music can be found on Spotify and Apple Music."
