Isabella Wagner Spends Summer in Boston and NYC

Isabella Wagner, CoSA Musical Theatre senior, had a fun, busy summer. She spent the first part of the summer participating in the show Sunday in the Park with George at J*Company Theatre, where she played Yvonne. Then she packed her bags and got on a plane to spend two weeks attending Boston Conservatory’s Precollege Vocal Intensive.

Isabella applied to the Vocal Intensive program months ago, sending four videos of her singing different styles and different pieces. She was ecstatic when she got in, excited to work on her classical and contemporary vocal training at one of the top vocal and theatre colleges in the country.

Boston Conservatory is a specific conservatory through Berklee College of Music, specializing in vocal, drama, dance, and music. Boston Conservatory was in the top eight colleges to have the highest Broadway crossover this past year, according to Boston Conservatory alumni are in current Broadway shows such as Natasha Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812, Dear Evan Hansen, Hello Dolly, Phantom of the Opera, Waitress, Cats, Beautiful, and many more.

Isabella spent the entire day, from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm in a multitude of classes, ranging from music theory, English dictation, Italian dictation, sight singing, choral rehearsal, performance master classes, stage works, acting, and Shakespeare. She got to work with many of the Boston Conservatory vocal teachers, including Patty Thom who is the head of the Opera Program. Isabella participated in three different showcases, singing two different solo songs.

After the Boston Conservatory program ended, she took a bus to New York to spend a week in the city working with coaches that are helping her with the college audition process. She took many dance classes at the Broadway Dance Center and was able to see the show Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway.

Her final task of the summer was to return to one of her favorite places, National Comedy Theatre, to attend their two week improv/ sketch comedy intensive. This is her second year doing this intensive, and second year receiving a full scholarship. Isabella is captain of the CHS/ CoSA Improv team and is getting very excited for a fun year ahead. There are Improv shows every month in the Black Box -- check the CoSA calendar for dates.
