Jess Garcia represents CoSA at San Diego County English Speaking Union Shakespeare ContestPosted by: Elisabeth Josset 2 years, 4 months ago
Jess Garcia, a sophomore and member of the 1B CoSA Musical Theatre and Drama department, won the school-wide CoSA Musical Theatre and Drama Shakespeare competition, judged by three professional theatre artists in San Diego.
On February 5, Jess then went on to represent CoSA at the San Diego County English Speaking Union Shakespeare Contest held at North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach. From a field of many representative high schools in San Diego County, Jess placed in the "Final 5" of this level of the competition.
The English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition is a nation-wide competition where the best and brightest of high school students compete by performing Shakespearean monologue, sonnets, and cold readings. Much like athletics, the competition begins locally with a school-wide competition, proceeds to a county-wide competition; the winner of the county-wide competition advances to an all-expense paid trip to compete at the National finals held each year at Lincoln Center Theater in NYC.
CoSA has a strong history of students competing in the ESU Shakespeare competition. In 2016, CoSA Musical Theatre and Drama student Ceci Harchegani placed third in the National Finals at Lincoln Center Theatre. Over the years, 4 other CoSA Musical Theatre and Drama students have won the San Diego County competition and have traveled to NYC to compete in the National finals. We have a strong tradition of celebrating Shakespeare at CoSA that we love!
