Mellor Wins 1st Place

Lydia Mellor, a CoSA Musical Theatre & Drama sophomore, won First Place in the Rotary District 5340 Finals competition - Four Way Test Speech Contest. The First Place award came with $1,000 cash prize; bringing Lydia's cash awards in this contest to almost $1,600!

Lydia Mellor captured 1st place and $300 in the South Regional of Rotary’s Four-Way Test Speech Contest at Chula Vista Rotary Club on April 8, 2016 with her speech on “Gender Equity."

The Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest encourages high school students to prepare and give 5-7 minute speeches that apply the Four-Way Test to everyday activities and issues.  The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The Four-Way Test asks four simple questions:

  • Is it the Truth?
  • Is it Fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build Goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

This is the 4th year of Coronado Rotary’s participation in the District 5340 Four-Way Test Speech Contest and the 3rd consecutive year that Coronado has been represented at the Finals.
