Coronado School of the Arts presents excerpts from “The Planets”, and more at Spring Music Concert
On Wednesday May 14, audience members will be experiencing a new frontier in Band & Choir School concerts. “The CHS Band is stepping out of their comfort zone,” says Matt Heinecke, Director of the CHS Band and CoSA Music Department. “‘The Planets’ is considered one of the most famous orchestral works ever written and is typically performed by collegiate and professional orchestras. The students have really risen to the challenge and I am trying to rally as many people as possible to come be a part of this wonderful achievement.”
‘The Planets’ was composed by British composer Gustav Holst in 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst. With the exception of Earth, all the astrological planets that were known during the work's composition are represented. The two thrilling movements to be performed by Coronado High School are Mars and Jupiter.
Heinecke adds, “This concert aims to be one of the best we have pulled off in my tenure and should run just over an hour in length. I hope you all can make it.”
The concert begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday May 14 in the Main Theatre of the Coronado Performing Arts Center at 650 D Ave. Coronado, CA. A $5 Entrance Donation is appreciated from the public or a $3 donation from Coronado Schools’ students and staff. For additional information call (619)522-4050 x.4Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
