Applications for 2019-20 School Year

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS: Applications for 2019-20 will be available on this page by November 15. Early Application deadine is February 8, 2019. Students who apply by this deadline will have their audition or interview in early March, and be notified of their acceptance status by approximately March 15. Applications may be submitted after February 8 until May 31, 2019; these applications will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

Coronado School of the Arts

Open the door to your future in the arts! Apply to Coronado School of the Arts for the 2019-20 school year.  Any rising 9th grade (currently in 8th grade) or high school student in San Diego County is invited to apply to CoSA; about one-half of our students are from various school districts throughout the County.

Step One: Complete a CoSA application for the 2019-20 school year. Links to these applications will be posted by November 15 below. 

Please apply to only one conservatory. Each conservatory’s application is unique to that conservatory.

Please do not send portfolios, CDs or other materials with your application. If you live outside the San Diego region and are unable to participate in Audition Day on March 2, contact Nancy McRae @ nancy.mcrae@coronadousd.net to make arrangements for audition videos or portfolio info to send electronically.

When your application has been recieved, you will be sent an email with the date/time of your audition/portfolio review.Be sure you and your parent's email addresses are clearly written on the application.


Step Three: Prepare for your audition and/or portfolio review.

There are several things you can do to prepare for your audition and/or portfolio review and interview:

  • Come to the CHS & CoSA Preview for Out of District Students/Parents  on January 22, 2019 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. 
  • If you are a CMS student, you and your parent are invited to the CHS Electives & CoSA preview on Jan 22 at 1 pm.
  • Carefully review the “Interview, Portfolio and/or Audition Tips” provided at the end of each application form.
  • Prepare your portfolio with materials that portray your talent and abilities (if you are required to bring a portfolio).
  • Practice your audition song and monologue (if applicable).
  • Role-play an interview situation with your parents or friends or a teacher.


Step Four: Come to your Audition or Portfolio Review and Interview on your assigned date/time. 

Be on time. Please give us the courtesy of notification if your plans change or you need to reschedule your interview time.

Step Five: You will be notified of your acceptance status. 

Stidents who applied by the Early Application deadline will be notified of their acceptance status by approximately March 15. Students applying after February 8 will be notified within a week of their audition/interview. Your acceptance status will be one of the following:

  • For students residing in Coronado: Accepted or Not Accepted. If not accepted, you may be encouraged to apply to a different conservatory if the faculty feels it is a better opportunity for you.
  • For students residing outside the Coronado Unified School District (IDTs or Inter-District Transfer students): Accepted to CoSA and invited to complete the IDT process, or Not Accepted. If Accepted to CoSA, your Acceptance Letter will contain detailed information on how to begin the IDT process. All IDT applications are reviewed by the CUSD district office, and they will notify you of your IDT status.
  • In rare cases, if a conservatory has filled up, you may be put on a Waiting List, pending space availability.

Step Six:  Accept or decline your admission to CoSA as soon as possible.

Your acceptance letter will specify a deadline for you to accept or decline your admission to CoSA. Please respond by the deadline,  or you may forfeit your spot in CoSA.
