Youth Arts Camp Description:
In this 10-day arts camp, young artists will dive into selected art movements-- including Surrealism, Gothic Expressionism and Dadaism-- while exploring their influence on storytelling, character design and theatrical performance. Surrealist dance themes will be explored as well as theater improvisation techniques. Students will develop concept art inspired by what they learn, experimenting with mixed media, collage and expressive portraiture. Through hands-on projects, they'll bring their artistic visions to life, from eerie self-portraits to surrealist dioramas, while also incorporating elements of theater arts such as costume design, movement-based storytelling, and the dramatic power of visual arts in performance.
By the end of the program, students will have a collection of art pieces, a deeper understanding of the crossover between drama and visual arts, and the chance to showcase their creativity in a final presentation inspired by Pablo Picasso & Eric Satie's avant guard collaboration of music, art and Parisian circus ballet, Parade (1917.)
